Why assess strategy and governance maturity?
Governance is how an organisation makes decisions, sets direction and holds itself to account. When it works, priorities are clear, resources follow strategy, and risks and opportunities are dealt with before they become crises. When it doesn't, the symptoms show up everywhere else: competing priorities, stalled initiatives, surprises at board level and decisions nobody owns.
The models in this domain examine the systems behind good direction-setting and oversight. Is strategy translated into goals that teams actually use? Does the board get the information it needs to challenge effectively? Are ethical expectations lived, or just written down? Is innovation managed as a portfolio, or left to chance?
Where to start
- For overall direction, start with Strategic Planning & Alignment. It shows whether strategy reaches the people who deliver it.
- For boards and leadership teams, use Board & Executive Effectiveness as a structured self-review.
- For stewardship of resources, look at Financial Management and Asset Management.
- For emerging governance responsibilities, ESG / Sustainability and AI Governance assess areas where expectations from regulators, investors and the public are rising quickly.
These assessments work well as a facilitated session with a leadership team or board, where discussing the differences in answers is as valuable as the final scores.
