Why assess customer and growth maturity?

Sustainable growth comes from understanding customers better than competitors do, and turning that understanding into experiences, messages and offers people value. Many organisations invest heavily in campaigns, tools and sales headcount while the basics stay immature: customer insight sits in silos, journeys are designed around internal structures, and nobody can say with confidence which activities actually drive revenue.

The models in this domain assess the capabilities behind growth. How well do you understand your customers, and does that understanding change decisions? Is marketing planned and measured, or reactive? Is the sales process predictable and data-driven? Is your brand managed consistently across every touchpoint?

Where to start

  • For a customer-first view, start with Customer Experience. It assesses insight, journey design, service consistency and how feedback leads to action.
  • For demand generation, use Marketing to look at strategy, content, digital and social channels, customer data and performance measurement.
  • For revenue predictability, Sales & Revenue Operations covers pipeline management, forecasting, enablement and the alignment between sales, marketing and customer teams.
  • For reputation and identity, Brand Management assesses how your brand is defined, governed and experienced.
  • For product decisions, Product Management assesses strategy, customer discovery, prioritisation and whether products deliver measurable outcomes.
  • For existing customers, use Customer Success to assess onboarding, adoption, health and renewal, and Customer Service & Contact Centre to assess how enquiries and issues are resolved.

Customer and growth assessments are most revealing when marketing, sales and service teams complete them independently and compare results.
