Why assess leadership and people maturity?
Strategy, technology and process all depend on people: how they're led, how they're developed, and whether they have the conditions to do their best work. Yet people capabilities are often the hardest to see clearly. Engagement surveys measure sentiment, and HR metrics count activity, but neither tells you whether the underlying practices are informal, structured or truly embedded.
The models in this domain look at the practices behind people outcomes. How are leaders developed and held accountable? Do hiring, onboarding and performance conversations follow a deliberate approach, or does each manager improvise? Is change planned around the people affected by it? Does knowledge stay when people leave?
Where to start
- For a broad view, start with Leadership or People & Talent. Between them they cover how people are led, hired, developed and retained.
- If you're in the middle of a major change, such as a restructure, new system or merger, use Change Management alongside Communications & Stakeholder Engagement.
- For culture and working conditions, look at Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Employee Wellbeing and Remote / Hybrid Work.
- For hiring and performance, go deeper with Talent Acquisition and Performance Management & OKRs.
People assessments are especially valuable when several people complete them independently. Leaders and team members often see the same practices very differently, and that gap is a finding in itself.
