Why assess maturity in social and community organisations?

Charities, schools, training providers, health services and community organisations face the same pressures as any other organisation, with more scrutiny and fewer resources. Funders, regulators and the people they serve increasingly expect evidence of impact, sound governance and consistent quality. Most maturity frameworks, though, were written with large commercial organisations in mind.

The models in this domain are designed for mission-driven and public-service settings. They assess whether impact is defined and measured, whether governance and funding are sustainable, whether learning is designed around learners, and whether care is delivered safely and consistently. They also recognise that many of these organisations rely on volunteers, partnerships and limited budgets.

Where to start

  • For charities and NGOs, start with Nonprofit / NGO Management. It covers mission, governance, fundraising, programme impact, people and volunteers, and financial sustainability.
  • For any organisation with a social purpose, including businesses with community programmes, use Social Impact & Community to assess how impact is planned, delivered and evidenced.
  • For schools, colleges and training providers, Education & Training Delivery looks at curriculum design, delivery, learner experience, assessment, learning technology and quality improvement.
  • For clinics, practices and care providers, Healthcare Operations assesses patient safety, care coordination, operational flow, workforce, health data and patient experience.

These are self-assessments to support improvement. They aren't inspections and don't replace any regulatory framework.
